“The Outer Optimates”: 2016 Superhero Concepts

These are some designs I created in 2016 for a potential web-comic. The comic would be about a small team of heroes in Alaska which, in the post-post global warming world of the 26th Century, would be a world power along with new nations in what used to be Canada, Russia, and the United States. The team leaders were the “Solaress”, a space-age Athena, along with the Aquaman analogue the “Hydroseeker”. The “Nevermind” would have been the team’s Brainiac-5 and the other team members were Proton, a Mega-Man/Astro-Boy analogue, the “Winterion” who could “stop” oxygen and hydrogen atoms to freeze water or create liquid hydrogen, and the “Geologician” who could control silicon atoms and therefore control sand and earth. The comic would have a futuristic angle like DC’s Legion of Superheroes and Batman Beyond but I decided to have my heroes go up against gangsters and crime syndicates rather than cosmic conquerors or space invaders as seen in recent superhero films. One villain I created was “Krimson Kubla”, a Mongolian mob boss since I imagined that in the future people from Central Asia would immigrate to the more prosperous Alaska and face lack of employment and discrimination like the Irish and Italians of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries and today’s Hispanic population. The other villain was Pronzeus who would have been the Doctor Doom/Keyser Soze of the future underworld; an enigmatic mastermind with legions of robotic/android henchmen. I ended up scrapping the comic because, after reading about the future of cybercrime, it would be near impossible to maintain a secret identity in a world where information about an individual’s psychology, genetics, and physical trait can be effortlessly collected and distributed to interested parties.

UPDATE(2/27/20): Decided to re-scan the designs in high-resolution for better quality.
